Bird strike forces Southwest flight to make emergency landing at FLL; no injuries on board An issue with a flight shortly after takeoff from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport prompted an emergency landing. Around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, video footage showed Southwest Airlines Flight 1416 grounded at a terminal at the airport. The flight was on its way to Austin, Texas when it struck a bird in the air just after takeoff, at around 11:45 a.m.A statement released by the airline said that the pilots were able to land safely and evacuated all 145 passengers. Winthrop police lieutenant charged with child rape A Winthrop Police lieutenant was in court Wednesday to face charges of child rape.James Feeley, 56, a 20-year veteran of the police force, was charged with one count of child rape and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child.According to court documents, Feeley was found last night in a cemetery near his parents’ gravesite with a gun. When approached by police, he allegedly told the officers about the sexual crime he had committed against a child under the age of 12.Police took Feeley for a psychiatric evaluation and took the victim to Boston Children’s Hospital, where the child revealed that Feeley had committed similar actions twice previously. Judge declares mistrial in case of man accused in 1988 murder of girl in Lawrence The trial for a man accused in connection with the 1988 death of an 11-year-old girl from New Hampshire ended Wednesday with a judge declaring a mistrial, a spokesperson for the Essex County District Attorney’s office confirmed. Marvin McClendon was arrested last year, decades after Melissa Ann Tremblay disappeared near the LaSalle Social Club in Lawrence while she was visiting family.Tremblay was a resident of Salem, New Hampshire and was found stabbed to death in a Lawrence railroad yard one day after her disappearance.McLendon, a former Massachusetts corrections officer, was arrested in Alabama after authorities said evidence from Tremblay’s body led police to him. McClendon was later indicted on charges including murder.Though the jury in his trial deadlocked, the Essex County DA spokesperson told 7NEWS the DA’s office will be seeking to retry McClendon. There was no new trial date as of Wednesday afternoon.

She then came into the care of the ARL in October after her latest owner could no longer care for her.
