A Denver Nuggets superfan known as the “Red Pant Man” has been accused of squandering the profits from his single-branch Lakewood bank on “a veritable fleet of aircraft.”Michael Quagliano, an Illinois native who lives in Florida, is the majority shareholder and chairman at the publicly traded Solera National Bank, which opened in 2006 with a focus on Hispanic customers. Its only location is at 319 S. Sheridan Blvd. in Lakewood. He is also @TheRealRedPantMan on TikTok and a courtside staple at Nuggets games, where he dances around, teases opponents and takes selfies in signature trousers. And those two sides of him are commingling in questionable ways, a local developer said. Rob Salazar, whose family office Central Street Capital has real estate projects in Glendale and Globeville’s Fox Island, sued Solera’s holding company on Sept. 22. Salazar has a background in accounting and is a shareholder in Solera National Bancorp. He wants access to its books so that he can investigate what h...Historic ski-to saloon finally reopens near Vail

After more than a year of construction and renovation, a much-loved watering hole reopened last week in the town of Minturn, which is located two miles up a valley from Interstate 70 near Vail. The Minturn Saloon — which The Denver Post named in 2018 as one of Colorado’s most iconic bars — had a busy first weekend back in business as both locals and leaf-peepers made their way over to check out the changes over a few margaritas.Built in 1901, after a fire burned parts of the 1880s-era mining town, “the building has always housed a restaurant and bar, as well as serving as a pool, boxing hall and gambling joint at one point or another,” according to the Minturn Saloon’s website. The Minturn Saloon’s bar is usually filled with skiers and snowboarders who just came down the Minturn Mile during the ski season. Denver Post Broncos writer Parker Gabriel posts his Broncos Mailbag periodically during the offseason. Click here to submit a question.I am so glad that someone else has Russell Wilson. He had his time here in Seattle. The worst thing about it is, that no matter bad (he plays), he’ll still get a big fat paycheck. Glad he’s a Bronco.— John Edwards, Auburn, Wash.Funny enough, John, I watched Seattle QB Drew Lock hit Noah Fant for 51 yards and two of the players drafted with picks acquired in the Russell Wilson trade — CB Devon Witherspoon and OLB Boye Mafe — dominate against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football as I wrote this mailbag. There’s no argument here that Seattle’s won the trade resoundingly. You’ll also get no argument from me that Wilson’s five-year, $245 million extension is going to be problematic at some point for the Broncos. At the same time, Wilson once again looks like a pretty darn good player. His quarterback rating through four games is 106.7 (...Man accused of supplying fatal dose of fentanyl to California teen receives 22-year prison sentence

The California Legislature devoted much of its time this year to a battle over regulating wages and working conditions of fast food workers.Last year, legislators and Gov. Gavin Newsom created a state agency that would oversee the fast food industry, which fought back with a referendum asking voters to overturn the new law, arguing that it would undermine the franchise business model. With the referendum qualified for the ballot, the battle was rejoined this year with a proposal to make parent companies liable for labor law violations, further eroding the franchise model.Ultimately, the clash was resolved with a compromise that gave sponsors of the legislation, unions mostly, what they wanted, including a new $20 minimum wage, but removed the threat to the franchise system. Newsom signed the compromise legislation, Assembly Bill 1228, last week, and the fast food industry will remove its referendum from the 2024 ballot.“Signature of AB 1228 preserves the franchise business model in t...Douthat: Trump’s GOP rivals must unite or die

I’m not sure that an assembly of presidential candidates has ever given off stronger loser vibes, if I may use a word favored by the 45th president of the United States, than the Republicans who recently debated at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.A snap 538/Washington Post/Ipsos poll and a CNN focus group showed Ron DeSantis as the night’s winner, and that seems right: After months of campaigning and two debates, DeSantis is still the only candidate not named Donald Trump who has a clear argument for why he should be president and a record that fits his party’s trajectory and mood.On the stage with his putative rivals, that makes him the one-eyed man in the kingdom of the blind. Against Trump, that’s probably going to be good for an extremely distant second place. The path that I (and others) once saw for the Florida governor, where he would run on his political success and voters would drift his way out of weariness with Trump’s destructive impact on Republican fortunes, has ...Hanson: America should help Ukraine resist Russian aggression
Published Mon, 11 Nov 2024 17:45:55 GMT
Most Americans understandably favor the Ukrainian resistance against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s naked 2022 aggression.Yet for Ukraine to break the current deadlock — our generation’s Verdun with perhaps 600,000 combined casualties so far — and “win” the war, it apparently must have the military wherewithal to hit targets inside Russia.Such strategically logical attacks might nevertheless provoke a wounded and unpredictable Russia finally to carry out its boilerplate and ignored existential threats. From the last 75 years of big-power rivalries, the operational “rules” of proxy wars are well known. In Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan, Russia supplied America’s enemies — sometimes even sending Russian pilots into combat zones.Thousands of Americans likely died due to our adversaries’ use of Russian munitions and personnel.Likewise, Russia lost 15,000 fatalities in its decade-long misadventure in Afghanistan. In part, Moscow’s defeat may have been due to deadly American weapons, i...Latest news
