MARION — A coach will bark out plenty of orders during a game, but sometimes he has to listen to his players. On the final drive of Saturday’s game with Tabor Academy, Lawrence Academy coach Jason Swepson took the advice of his offensive line.Instead of breaking a late tie with a field goal, the Spartans went for a touchdown, and got it, to earn a 28-21 win between two Independent School League unbeatens. With the win, Lawrence Academy stays perfect with a 6-0 record, while Tabor drops to 5-1. Both are in good position to make a NEPSAC bowl game. That final drive started at the Lawrence 35-yard line with 3:23 to go. Lawrence had been mounting long drives all game.“Perfect amount (of time), because we have a kicker (Rollin Hughes),” Swepson said. “We’ve just got to get in field-goal range. We got into field-goal range, and then the o-line said, ‘We want to score a touchdown.’ I was playing for a field goal. O-line said, ‘Hell no, let’...Boston College upends UConn for fourth straight win

When we play them, that’s the expectation.”BC quarterback Thomas Castellanos took advantage of the unseasonably warm playing conditions to pass for 151 yards and a touchdown. After more than three decades, the doors at Amadio’s Pizza in Port Credit will close for the last time on Saturday night.“The last couple years have been very challenging with COVID and aging family passing away, so it’s time,” an emotional owner Joe Leroux tells CityNews. Leroux adds a significant factor in his decision to close was the six-month-long road closure for construction on nearby train tracks which seriously changed traffic patterns in the area, cutting business to the pizzeria in half.“Our sales dropped the day that they shut the tracks down because it became so inconvenient to come here. In reality, in life, it only takes like 30 days to change habits and to create a new habit,” explained Leroux. “And when the track’s opened back up again, the state of the economy prevented a lot of people from coming back. The math just doesn’t add up.”In an online post announcing the closure, Leroux said they just don’...Israel says its war can both destroy Hamas and rescue hostages. Their families are less certain

JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military has sought to assure the public it can achieve the two goals of its war on Hamas simultaneously — toppling the strip’s militant rulers and rescuing some 230 hostages abducted from Israel. But as the army ramps up airstrikes and ground incursions on the blockaded enclave, laying waste to entire neighborhoods in preparation for a broader invasion, the anguished families of hostages are growing increasingly worried those aims will collide — with devastating consequences.Annihilating Hamas would seem to require a ground operation of unprecedented intensity fraught with the risk of harming Israeli hostages. Saving hostages stuck inside Gaza would appear to require engagement with Hamas, the group that forever traumatized the country when it sent fighters into southern Israel to brutally kill over 1,400 people and take dozens captive on Oct. 7, sparking this latest war between the bitter enemies. Over 7,700 Palestinians have been killed in the Is...Police were alerted just last month about Maine shooter’s threats. ‘We couldn’t locate him.’

Police across Maine were alerted just last month to “veiled threats” by the U.S. Army reservist who would go on to carry out the worst mass shooting in the state’s history, one of a string of missed red flags that preceded the massacre. Two local law enforcement chiefs told The Associated Press that a statewide awareness alert was sent in mid-September to be on the lookout for Robert Card after the firearms instructor made threats against his base and fellow soldiers. But after stepped-up patrols of the base and a visit to Card’s home – neither of which turned up any sign of him – they moved on.“We added extra patrols, we did that for about two weeks. … The guy never showed up,” said Jack Clements, the police chief in Saco, home to the U.S. Army Reserve base where Card trained.Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry, whose jurisdiction includes Card’s home in Bowdoin, said the Army Reserve tipped his department in September to the reservist’s threats, and the sheriff se...Man found stabbed to death on West Side

SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) — A "ghost of the forest" as some call it, an albino deer, was spotted wandering a property in Spring Hill, Tennessee, twice this week."It honestly was such a surreal kind of almost like mystical experience," Abbey Cabler explained. Her husband first spotted the deer in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Oct. 24. Why do people add ‘s’ to the end of store names? "All of a sudden I hear my husband go, 'Oh my gosh babe! Get out here now,' like kind of freaking out, kind of panicky, and I run out there and he goes, 'There is a white deer. I swear.' And we look out the window and sure enough there he is: just kind of like right on the other side of our porch, closer to the tree line just eating away on the bushes," she explained. They were captivated by the snow-white deer, snapping a couple of photos and a short video before it ran off. His statuesque stature and muscles are a spectacle to watch. Cabler described it as being like a scene out of a Christmas mov...Latest news
