New affordable housing development opens in Santa Monica  The newest affordable housing development in Santa Monica opened its doors on Friday. Las Flores will offer 73 affordable housing units for the local community, with one-, two- and three-bedroom units available. The building includes a playground, parking, a community garden and kitchen, a gym, wellness studio, on-site laundry and an outdoor picnic area. In addition, Las Flores will be all-electric and include EV charging stations and solar panels. “Today marks a tremendous milestone in our city’s commitment to providing housing security and stability to our entire community,” said Santa Monica Mayor Gleam Davis. “This development ensures that everyone in our city has access to safe and affordable housing.” The building was built with the help of the Community Corporation of Santa Monica, a nonprofit that restores, builds and manages local affordable housing. They have restored more than 80 properties in Santa Monica since their inception in 1982.

SF Giants: MRI reveals severity of Mitch Haniger’s oblique strain SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Outfielder Mitch Haniger, one of the San Francisco Giants’ marquee free-agent additions, underwent an MRI on Friday night that revealed a Grade 1 strain in his left oblique, manager Gabe Kapler said Saturday morning.Haniger, 32, will rest for the next 5-7 days, the Giants said, and will be re-evaluated after that for resuming baseball activity. Fire breaks out at Petaluma homeless shelter By Bay City NewsA fire broke out at the People’s Village homeless shelter in Petaluma on Friday morning.Petaluma firefighters responded to the structure fire on the 900-block of Hopper Street at about 4:09 a.m., according to a press release from the Petaluma Fire Department.The village is a collection of 25 tiny homes built in a lot behind the Mary Isaak Center, designed to provide a safe, managed shelter to address the county’s declared shelter crisis.The fire broke out in one of the units but was controlled by the fire sprinklers installed as part of the construction of the village.
